The Go 242A1 amphibious transport glider was designed to deliver military units to the rear of the enemy. It could carry 21 fully equipped soldiers, and as a transport - military cargo, for example, an army car or a field gun. The cargo compartment of the fuselage was made of steel pipes, the wings were made of wood, the skin of the glider was made of fabric with water-resistant impregnation.
Loading was carried out through a hatch in the tail part of the fuselage. The rear location of the hatch was convenient because if the glider collided with any obstacle during landing and damaged its nose, the hatch remained intact, which allowed quick unloading in combat conditions. Go 242A1 gliders, in addition to transporting personnel, were also used to supply troops on the Eastern Front and in North Africa.

Le planeur de transport amphibie Go 242A1 a été conçu pour livrer des unités militaires à l'arrière de l'ennemi. Il pouvait transporter 21 soldats entièrement équipés et, en tant que moyen de transport - fret militaire, par exemple, une voiture militaire ou un canon de campagne. Le compartiment à bagages du fuselage était en tubes d'acier, les ailes étaient en bois, la peau du planeur était en tissu avec une imprégnation résistante à l'eau.
Le chargement a été effectué par une trappe dans la partie arrière du fuselage. L'emplacement arrière de la trappe était pratique car si le planeur heurtait un obstacle lors de l'atterrissage et endommageait son nez, la trappe restait intacte, ce qui permettait un déchargement rapide dans des conditions de combat. Les planeurs Go 242A1, en plus du transport de personnel, ont également été utilisés pour ravitailler les troupes sur le front de l'Est et en Afrique du Nord.
