L'armée de l'air italienne (Regia Aeronautica), en tant que branche indépendante des forces armées, a été créée en 1923. Dans l'entre-deux-guerres, elle était considérée comme la plus progressiste d'Europe. Cependant, une attention insuffisante aux types d'avions modernes, ainsi que la faiblesse industrielle et technique de l'Italie, ont conduit à la perte d'une position de leader par rapport aux forces aériennes d'autres pays.

The Italian Air Force (Regia Aeronautica), as an independent branch of the armed forces, was created back in 1923. In the period between the two world wars, they were considered the most progressive in Europe. However, insufficient attention to modern types of aircraft, as well as the industrial and technical weakness of Italy, led to the loss of a leading position in comparison with the air forces of other countries.
