La livraison de voitures Chevrolet à Prêt-bail depuis les États-Unis a commencé en 1942. Jusqu'à la fin de la guerre, le nombre de ces véhicules dans l'armée soviétique dépassait 47 000 unités. Grâce à ces camions, le niveau de mécanisation et de mobilité des formations de combat a atteint un nouveau niveau. Les camions Chevrolet ont été utilisés à la fois dans les unités de combat et à l'arrière. Ils servaient à transporter de l'infanterie, des tracteurs d'artillerie, des ambulances, des radios mobiles, des munitions, etc.
Assez fiables et faciles à utiliser, avec une bonne maniabilité, ils étaient respectés par les soldats. De plus, en plus de remplir les fonctions de camions, de nombreux véhicules de cette série ont servi de base à l'installation de plusieurs systèmes de lancement de fusées - les véhicules de combat bien connus de l'artillerie à fusée, mieux connus sous le nom de "Katyusha".
